    Link Baiting for people

    By maurizio | March 5, 2007

Link Baiting is a technique used by webmaster sto get as much link as possible. The reason for that is that some search engines (read:google ) use links to define how much popular a site is. The more link it has the better should be. The algorithm is in fact a bit more complex and controls if the popularity and rating of the linking site. But when you have the popularity my blog has, any site linking is good. :)

Of course the reson is not to look better to the search engine per-se, the reason is that the better you perform in search engines, the more people will come to your site from a search engine. If you google “search engine traffic” I’m sure you’ll find tons of site showing why it’s good to have people coming from them.  The reason is found on site statistics: people coming from search engines clicks more ads.  When I’ll have more than 3 readers I’ll try to post some statistics about that.

That’s what webmaster and blogger usually say.

To me link baiting is more people oriented. I am (will be) doing link baiting just to have more people to read and comment my post. Even if I’ll be last on every search engines, I will be doing it only to have more people read my blog.

But what is the difference between getting links for search engines and getting links to have people? Well, I don’t know yet.  :)

One of the differences is where you are going to hunt for links. If you ask/get links from unknown pages or old post on big sites, you are looking for google rating. If you look for links from places where real person go to read and get informed, you are link baiting for people.
