Increase your visitors from MyBloglog

If you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Feel free to leave comments and questions too. Thanks for visiting!
Today I’m working on my Site Statistics tool. I’m trying to make it faster but with no luck. I’m doing too many queries to the Database. To say it in simple words, for every information I get from a site, I have to check if it’s already on the Database (1 query) and if it’s not there I insert it (another query). Add the query I make to update the site and there are already 3 queries. Add that I search a lot of info so at the end I have a lot of queries multiplied for 10-20 threads (threads: I run 10-20 applications at the same time).
Anyway back to the topic. How can you get more visitors to your site with MyBlogLog? Simple. Visit a lot of sites that uses MyBlogLog (MBL from now on.I’m tired to write it). You can go to MBL homepage and click on the Members button (or better New Members which have less visitors). This way you could expect at least the site owner to visit you back. This is especially true if you visit a new blog with few visitors. If the blog is brand new you could be the only one on the MBL widget list! Not all the site you visit will give back visitors, but at least you’ll see tons of new (interesting) sites.
I am doing it every day and I always discover new stuff.
If you are on the evil side of things (stop reading John Chow! :-) ) there is two tricks you can use to speed it up.
1. Press open in new Tab on every User you see on MBL and then do the same for every site the user has. This way you’ll open a lot of tabs with a lot of sites. You don’t have to read them. At least if you are evil. I suggest to read them all.
2. Create a folder on your bookmark and fill it with sites that use MBL. When you want to increase your visitors, just press “Open all in Tabs” and you will “instantly” get 100 or more tabs, depending on how many sites you put on the folder. Do not put more than that or your FireFox could crash. Again I suggest to read/skim those site. You’ll never know what you can find there.
If you are curious, today I’ve updated my About page too. Not a lot more information, but enough to start some troll war. :-)

Don’t go too crazy or you will get blocked. MBL blocked me for 24 hours. I pumped over 1,000 URLs in under 2 minutes. My program was supposed to pause, but didn’t. I wasn’t doing anything bad and I did follow the robots.txt file. But I needed to read some info from a bunch of pages and the 5 second pauses didn’t work.

Project Matt: Well, that’s the way I use to discover new sites. If you see me more than once it means I think your site is interesting.
Or maybe I mistakenly clicked you twice :-)
1000 url in 2minutes? Well, with my tricks you can’t do that. Maybe I could write a program to do that.. :D Better not to try.

That is something that could create a good list of untargeted traffic, but its worth the try…good effort!

Thanks for some new (and different) ideas on how to maximize our traffic from MyBlogLog! After all, since we belong to that blogging community, we might as well make the most of it!
Cheers,

I also recommend SUExchange (Stumble Upon Exchange). I have gotten some good results from this site. You stumble other peoples sites in exchange for a stumble on yours…
